The Incredible Hulk
I had fun painting a portrait of the Hulk, which came out awfully close to the Edward Norton 2008 version.
Rebuilding and reinforcing the positive relationship with art in these very difficult times require revisiting the characters and themes that I was interested in as a child. For me, comic books, especially by Marvel, were the cornerstone of this journey, even if I feel like the the most recent iterations are not necessarily for me anymore.
I find it important as well to go back to the roots when I feel like I lose my direction, or when creating art feels more difficult even though my skills have improved drastically. There’s a loss of freedom and fluidity that appears in time, when all I focus on is craft and technical ability. A rigidity that comes from external pressure and gets reinforced by my own internal turmoil. It has to go.
